This Ain't Your Grandma's Wedding Photography. Welcome to E. Leigh Photography.

We're not ordinary wedding photographers. We are awesomer.

Yes, we know that's not a word. And we don't care. We might love our cameras more than we love each other (just kidding! kind of.) NYC is our home base but we have been known to travel far and wide in search of the perfect taco.

We both like to cook, but nobody likes to do the dishes. We've been married for a little over a year, share an office, and still love to spend time together.

We can't wait to hang out with you and hear all about your wedding. Get in touch!

We are Mat and Erin and we love to tell love stories.

Our wedding, or why I’ve been away a while

February 5, 2010

Hey guys, i’m really sorry I’ve been so absent from this blog. Last summer I got married myself and I can testify to the fact that it completely takes over your life! I actually worked and photographed a lot, but was unable to muster the energy to write posts after making decisions about table linens and invitation envelopes. I loved planning our wedding and I really love being married. I feel like now we can really understand what our brides are going through. Here are a few details, wonderfully captured by Gabriel Boone Photography.

Originally I conceived that the day would be full of bright colors with a mild Indian motif. There was no real reason for this other than I had recently traveled there and was transfixed by the gorgeous, bright colors. We chose to hold our wedding at an amazing venue, Farm Kitchen outside of Seattle. It’s a beautiful organic farm with full venue facitilities and a guesthouse on the property. They were really perfect because we had wanted an outdoor wedding that also included sustainable and organic food.

Our choice of caterer was made for the same reason. Let me back up, the caterer was everything and the very first decision we made as an engaged couple. Everything flowed from that. I remembered reading about Molly’s wedding way back when and filing her caterer’s name away on the off-chance that I would one day be planning a wedding in Seattle. Little did I know that I would soon be sitting down with the lovely and talented Mataio and Jessica of Ciao Thyme to discuss the different types of devilled eggs and pies that we would serve on our day.

They were hands down, the best part of our wedding. They cook everything on site and bring their own ovens and grills with them. Nothing is pre-made and heated up. The next day, one of the venue coordinators came up and asked where on earth we had found them. Trust your instincts – if you want to work with someone, do whatever you have to to make it happen.

My mom. who is an amazing seamstress, made my dress and hers! It was so much fun to spend time brainstorming and working on it. I definitely wanted a dress, not a gown. She even made a ruffled train that I took off after the ceremony so I could move around easily. We joked around that she would be sewing me into it as I walked down the aisle, but she only had to put on the corsage and the train! Quite an accomplishment for a busy lady. She’s starting a business now making the ruffles and trains for other brides too.

The flowers were from a local farm down the road. The woman who did them made all of the bouquets for me and my bridesmaids as well as the table decorations. We asked for lots of herbs and in-season flowers. I just told her to make tons of mason jar arrangements that were brightly colored. She really blew me away. The lamps were from crazy shops on the interwebs. I wish I had a few left. I told everyone to take what they wanted and they did! That’s our invitation from India right there too. We traced an elephant stamp I had bought in Rajasthan last year and then uploaded it as the emblem for everything at the wedding.

We absolutely loved everyone we worked with and they made my day so easy and beautiful. My godmother, a UU minister, worked with us to design a beautiful ceremony that really reflected us as a couple. Our coordinator, Lori of Elegant Affairs, was outstanding. She really took all of my disparate ideas and made them way more gorgeous than I ever imagined. When I finally saw everything up in the field, I couldn’t believe how good it looked. It was the best day ever!

I wore my Leica down the aisle because Mat proposed to me with it instead of an engagement ring. It was my engagement ring actually!

The boys wore khaki suits from Banana Republic with orange ties from an Etsy seller and the girls’ dresses were from J.Crew.

I’m from Seattle, so of course we had to do coffee for favors! We used the same elephant stamp as on the invite and designed a label ourselves. My cousin runs a local roaster, Caffe Rococo and he roasted, bagged and labeled all of these for me – it was the easiest part of the wedding!

We were obsessed with mustaches! We put packets of them on all of the tables.
