This Ain't Your Grandma's Wedding Photography. Welcome to E. Leigh Photography.

We're not ordinary wedding photographers. We are awesomer.

Yes, we know that's not a word. And we don't care. We might love our cameras more than we love each other (just kidding! kind of.) NYC is our home base but we have been known to travel far and wide in search of the perfect taco.

We both like to cook, but nobody likes to do the dishes. We've been married for a little over a year, share an office, and still love to spend time together.

We can't wait to hang out with you and hear all about your wedding. Get in touch!

We are Mat and Erin and we love to tell love stories.

3 reasons you should see each other before the ceremony

March 31, 2010

I’m a big romantic, a total softie. I cry at every wedding I shoot. And when we got married, we both agreed we didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony. There’s an old-fashioned streak in this boho girl after all. But, as planning progressed and we scheduled and spoke with our vendors, we changed our minds. We always encourage our couples to plan a significant amount of time for couples portraits. why.

1. You will be calmer

Weddings are stressful! I bet I don’t need to tell you that. All of that planning and dreaming and hoping, it all comes down to one, single day. It’s hard to keep that in focus as you’re choosing linens and flowers. By scheduling your portraits together before the ceremony, you’ll have a moment to see and experience the day just you alone, before the craziness begins. We ALWAYS shoot a first look reveal in order to capture the looks on your faces as you first see each other

2. You will have more time to enjoy your party

Scheduling your pictures as early as possible before things fall behind schedule leaves more time for you to enjoy that awesome party you planned. That way we can do the family group portraits immediately after the ceremony and you can all dance your way through the night.

3. You will look your best

Your dress will be unwrinkled. Your makeup and hair will be fresh. We pride ourselves on making every one of our clients look like a rock star, but give us first crack at you and you will not believe how amazing you will look. Having that time together also means you will have time to play and be spontaneous. That’s how the best pictures come about.

Of course we never force anyone to schedule their pictures before the ceremony. We completely respect your wishes and traditions. However, I was surprised to find how much it helped me enjoy the rest of the day. Seeing your partner before you see everyone else reminds you that you’re on this journey together and to enjoy every minute.

At last by KatL368 featuring Notte by Marchesa dresses

One of my photos was featured in this gorgeous purple inspiration board on Polyvore. It’s that lovely one of the couple on the right. If you’ve never been there, go now! It’s an amazing way to put together an inspiration board. You can pull the images for the collage and they are linked back to the original sites! This is killer for shopping, but I bet brides and inspiration board junkies will find it useful too. I think Kathryn at Snippet & Ink will be able to use it well.

Items in this set:
Notte by Marchesa Asymmetric silk-chiffon gown, $990
clara mae floral embroidered dress, 160 GBP
With a Flourish – Candy Purple Wedding Invitation | Shop GetMarried, $76
Buy Wedding Heart-handle Cake Knife & Server Set – Wedding…, $19

{ Matt + Linette } – Glamorous at Duane Park

February 14, 2010

From the moment I met Matt and Linette I knew we were going to have a fantastic time together. We met over a bottle of red wine and things just flowed easily. These two are the epitome of New York City glamour. They were married at city hall and the next day threw a fabulous reception at Duane Park for all of their friends and family.

Their whole evening just spoke to me in black and white, except for this. This is the balcony off of their hotel room. We lucked into this gorgeous puddle of light. Linette wore this stunning Calvin Klein dress with sunburst pleats all over it. Divine!

Also at the hotel. These two were so blissfully in love I don’t have too many pictures of them not locking lips.

Linette said the only thing she wanted at her wedding was her grandfather. Look at the sparkle in his eye!

Duane Park is the most beautiful, intimate space in the city. Look at those curtains!

{ Joe + Clea }

February 5, 2010

Way last year, before our own wedding consumed me, we offered a free wedding photography package to one couple outside the NYC-area. We received so many deserving and amazing entries and eventually picked Joe and Clea as the lucky couple. These guys are sooooo amazing, I can’t even tell you. Their wedding was in Kansas and it was pouring rain the morning of their wedding but Clea was the calmest bride I’ve ever seen. And lo and behold, the sun came out right before their ceremony. The light was amazing! They had an Indian-themed wedding too since Joe proposed in front of the Taj Mahal. Romantic! We actually met up with them on our honeymoon in Thailand and spent a few days on an island drinking out of coconuts and watching the sunset. We’re hoping for a repeat in 2010! How about Argentina guys?

Who cares about rain? Not this bride!

A good family friend of Clea’s hosted the whole reception at their beautiful house. We were overjoyed with such a great location to shoot in.

Doesn’t Joe’s mom’s face say it all?

Right after the ceremony they realized that Clea had put the ring on Joe’s right hand! Oops!

There was also a choreographed Bollywood dance with the whole wedding party!

Clea’s grandmother gave the best toast about how stubborn Clea was as a little girl and how Joe won her over.

We love the limo shot!

Thanks again you guys! It was truly a pleasure to venture out to Kansas and meet you two. We wish you all of the happiness in the world.
