May 6, 2011Jump shots are awesomesauce!
February 2, 2011Moving Pictures
February 1, 2011We didn’t hire a videographer for our own wedding, and it’s probably my only regret about the day. I know I’m a still photographer and I should only push for that, but I do wish we had captured just a bit of the movement of the day. We did shoot some Super 8 film but still(!) haven’t developed it! If only I’d hired one of these companies. They do awesome work!
Elysium Productions‘ demo reel made me cry, for seriously. Try and watch just a little, I dare you. It is hard to find wedding films that aren’t a cheesy or old-fashioned but I really think they’ve nailed the balance between fun, energy and romance. Right on!
Hello Super 8 shoots only on Super 8 film which is lovely and gorgeous and without sound. The films are beautiful and artistic and simply classic.
What we mean by “This Ain’t Your Grandma’s Wedding Photography”
January 26, 2011I remember the first time I saw my grandmother’s beautifully bound white leather wedding album. I pored over pictures of her getting ready, adjusting her beautiful satin veil in the mirror and touching up her lipstick. I tried to imagine my wedding day and hoped I would look that good. She was so polished, so serene. I remember telling her how beautiful she looked and how much I loved those pictures. But those were all faked, she said. We did them the day before the actual wedding. I was more than a little disappointed. They were still beautiful of course, but the story wasn’t nearly as good. And to us, story is everything.
Weddings might all seem the same if you look at the events, but if you dig a little down you’ll find the emotions and nuances that make up each couple’s wonderful love story. Those are what we aim to capture. Not what we think should be happening or how we think you should be feeling, but HOW you actually felt. Your wedding day goes by so fast that you will likely not remember most of it and when you look back at our pictures you will see every emotion reflected in your face. Not fake emotions, but real ones. We will always tell your story true.
So when we say this ain’t your grandma’s wedding photography we mean this. We will never ask you to fake or mask an emotion. We will not insert ourselves into your story. Besides your spouse, we are the people who you will spend the most time with on your wedding day. We are not slaves to a perfect, mythical timeline. We want to have fun, and want that for you too! You are not a square peg and we are not a round hole. We go with the flow and adapt to you, not the other way around. We promise to be on the lookout for those amazing moments that tell your love story.
Because if the story of your life is what you leave behind, shouldn’t it be true?
Free Engagement session for NYC and Philadelphia clients!
January 19, 2011
It’s that time of year again when the inquiries are coming thick and fast and awesome new clients are becoming awesome new friends. It’s also time to start planning engagement sessions. We are getting busy you guys! This year we’re offering a free engagement session to all new weddings that are booked and the deposit is paid before April 15th. Woot!
Engagement sessions are a fantastic way for us all to get to know each other as well as for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. You don’t want your first time in front of our big ol’ lenses to be on your wedding day. That day is stressful enough. If you’re at all camera shy or don’t think you take good pictures, an engagement session is essential. We will show you how to pose (or non-pose) and relax on camera. We lurve shooting e-sessions because we get to go around to all of our favorite locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn and Philly and really capture the essence of you. We’ve been scouting locations this year for some super cool styled shoots as well (more on that soon!)
Everyone always asks what they can do with the photos. Our favorite idea is to make a guestbook with the images and plenty of space to write and leave it out at the wedding. We can help you design one of these. We also love when the images pop up in thank you notes! We can also include them in your album if that’s your preference and they’re great openers for your love story.
Make sure you contact us soon to get on the books because 2011 is filling up fast!
